- Start with your dog in a sit position on your left side.
- Say the dogs name
- Say "lets go" while stepping forward with your left foot first
- Walk with your dog at your side, starting with small distances.
- Keep the dogs attention on you by offering praise.
- After a successful distance, give a release command like "okay".
- Give him the treat.

Note: See how the dog keeps his eyes on the trainer as he walks. It is important for your dog to make eye contact with you throughout a training session. Encourage this behavior by saying its name followed by the command "on me" . Reward your dog with a treat for looking at you.
Also notice how the leash is loose, not tight where the dog is pulling. If your dog pulls, just stop and do not walk until he loosens the lead. It may take a while to walk any distance, however, your dog will soon learn that it cannot drag you.
