Sit Command

  1. Start with your dog in a standing position.
  2. Hold a treat in your hand so that the dog cannot eat it.
  3. Say the dogs name.
  4. Say "sit".
  5. Start with your hand in front of the dogs nose and slowly move it toward the dogs tail.
  6. Once the dog sits, say "good dog" first, Then give him the treat.
Correct hand position
Incorrect Hand Position Your dog should move into a sit position by following the movement of your hand. Never push on your dogs hind quarters to encourage a sit. It could hurt the forming joints.

Note: Be careful to not hold your hand too high. This will cause the dogs nose to go up and will result in him jumping up as shown in the picture.
